Job Summary

The Equipment Specialist (Administrative Analyst/Specialist Ex I) works under the general supervision of the Designated Athletics Administrator to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Broad Field House equipment room. The incumbent is responsible for researching best practices related to equipment safety, evaluation of current processes and systems related to the maintenance, ordering, inventory, and distribution/collection of apparel and equipment for the eight intercollegiate programs served by the Equipment Room. The incumbent is expected to develop and implement operational processes, procedures, and systems related to equipment and supplies that maximize efficiency and save money. The incumbent represents the equipment room and works closely with coaches and vendors to meet the ongoing equipment needs of the designated teams. The Equipment Specialist provides lead work direction to one full-time employee and hires and supervises two or more student assistants.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

$3,897.00 – $6,453.00 monthly

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
1. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and procedures within the constraints of a large organization
2. Ability to conduct research and analysis (e.g., best practices, inventory needs, costs, etc.)
3. General knowledge of athletic equipment and supplies (e.g., for an intercollegiate sports program) including maintenance, care, equipment life-cycle, and inventory
4. Strong organizational skills with working knowledge of inventory management and control
5. Knowledge of and ability to comply with all safety practices and regulations
6. Ability to provide lead work direction and training to others, as well as prepare work schedules
7. Working knowledge of financial recordkeeping and procedures
8. Ability to develop cost analysis and projections
9. Strong communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills
10. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed
Physical Requirements
11. Ability to frequently move up to fifty (50) pounds of athletic equipment and supplies throughout the work area and/or deliver to different venues

Conditions of Employment:
Valid driver’s license and maintenance of good driving record for occasional driving.
Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

12. Experience purchasing and/or maintaining inventories of athletic supplies and/or equipment
13. Experience working in an NCAA athletic department
14. Knowledge of state (public institution) procurement processes
15. Athletic Equipment Managers Association certification
