Job Summary

This Visual Experience Designer (Information Technology Consultant – Career) position will focus on designing and implementing user-friendly, brand-compliant collateral for the Information Resources & Technology (IRT) Division and the University.

The position will provide support for the University’s enterprise web and mobile applications and their implementation and ongoing usability and accessibility efforts related to the maintenance of an active and engaging web environment.

The position will work closely with IRT colleagues and key campus web publishers to thoroughly understand collaborative application requirements and use those as the basis for the development team’s efforts.

In addition, the position will contribute to the overall digital and print IT service delivery using mass communication channels including digital, print and social media.

This position reports to the Director of Web & Mobile Services in the Information Resources and Technology Division. The Web & Mobile Services team architects, develops, enhances, and supports the campus-wide web and mobile presence used by faculty, staff, and senior-level administrators for data-driven decision making.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Information Resources & Technology (IRT) partners with faculty, staff, and students to provide essential information technology services that support mission critical activities and innovative technology solutions that facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals at Sacramento State.

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, graphic design, communications, web design or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study
2. Experience in digital/print graphic design with current version of Adobe Creative Cloud.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
3. Demonstrated portfolio showcasing ability to develop layouts for a variety of print and digital collateral including web and mobile applications, brochures/flyers, digital and print signage, social media, banners, logos, etc.
4. Demonstrated proficiency designing visual and text content for digital publishing
5. Proven ability to analyze user needs, determine and evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to meeting those needs, and select the optimal solution.
6. Excellent communication skills.
7. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to train others on best practices.
8. Effective and efficient problem-solving skills with the ability to own, manage, and solve complex and routine problems.
9. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
10. Demonstrated initiative to collaborate with colleagues and continuously improve services and processes.
11. Demonstrated knowledge of Section 508 guidelines and strategies to meet ADA compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

12. Demonstrated knowledge of agile project management principles as they relate to web design and development.
13. Experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:
o Knowledge of and experience in implementing UI/UX best practices
o Standard and current web design and management tools
o Responsive Design
o Photography and/or digital asset management experience
o Understanding of functional processes used at an institution of higher education
o IT security standards and best practices
o HTML5, CSS, and/or Javascript
