Job Summary

Sacramento State seeks candidates who will be able to provide vision, dynamic entrepreneurial leadership, and professional management for the College of Continuing Education. The Dean is part of the Provost’s academic leadership team and serves as the chief administrative officer and spokesperson of the College of Continuing Education. To this end, the Dean is a vital link between the University and community leaders to identify and support emerging workforce needs within Sacramento, California, and the increasingly competitive global environment. Thus, the Dean represents the college and assists in developing partnerships with regional and international entities and initiatives; and coordinates the development and evaluation of instructional program offerings and student support systems.
The Dean is supported by an Associate Dean, 3 program directors, and a college staff of approximately 145. The Dean serves as an advocate for the diverse needs of the College, particularly at the University and CSU System-wide levels. The Dean is a University administrative officer and performs these and other duties as assigned by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President.

FLSA MPP - This position is defined in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and is exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA. This position is covered by health benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Education/Experience
1. Master’s degree from an accredited university;
2. Experience developing and operating self-support, off-campus centers;
3. Recent and demonstrated commitment to working in multi-culturally diverse environments;
4. Five (5) years of administrative experience in leadership capacities in large complex organizations;
5. Eight (8) years of successful experience developing high revenue generating programs;
6. Experience with planning, budget management and supervision;
7. Experience negotiating contracts with various constituents such as local, regional and international agencies.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
8. Demonstrated leadership in academic and community affairs and ability to develop and
maintain good working relations with faculty and administrators in a variety of disciplines and
operational areas;
9. Demonstrated commitment to shared governance in an educational or similar organization;
10. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
11. Understanding of and willingness to support the varied goals of the college;
12. Ability to foster regional partnerships among academic, community, and other stakeholders;
13. Demonstrated commitment to professional development of staff;
14. Strong entrepreneurial skills for the development and implementation of innovative delivery systems and educational programs, including those within a distance/distributed learning
environment.

Preferred Qualifications

15. Doctorate degree from an accredited university;
16. Ten (10) years of administrative experience in leadership capacities in large complex organizations;
17. Demonstrated leadership in global engagement, international training, including English Language Institutes, and professional development;
18. Demonstrated experience developing online programs and use of new educational technologies;
19. Experience as an academic administrator;
20. Evidence of community involvement and leadership;
21. Experience with regional and disciplinary accrediting agencies;
22. Experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary programs and scholarship.

The duties of this position include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest when they first occupy the position, an on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
