Working Title International Admissions Specialist

Job Summary

Under the general lead work direction of the Coordinator of International Admissions, the incumbent processes all undergraduate and graduate international student applications; advises and informs students, staff, faculty and the general public of policies and procedures pertaining to admission and enrollment of international students; assists in international credential evaluations; issues appropriate supporting documents for all newly admitted international students.

The incumbent also addresses a wide variety of prospective student inquiries; performs administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient office operations.

During the course of performing assigned duties the incumbent interacts with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public to promote Sacramento State.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the Experience requirements below.

Experience:
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Required Qualifications

Experience:
1. International admissions and/or credential evaluating experience.
2. Experience interacting with people in an informational or advising capacity
3. Experience researching and interpreting policies and procedures and communicating them to others

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of international applicants representing a wide range of cultural backgrounds
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
6. Strong organizational, detail-oriented and time management skills
7. Ability to analyze and apply academic regulations and procedures related to transfer credit
8. Ability to update website information
9. Ability to perform clerical support functions utilizing standard office equipment
10. Ability to perform data entry into computerized records systems

Preferred Qualifications

11. Master’s Degree.
12. Proficiency with one or more foreign languages.
13. Experience studying or living and working overseas.

The duties of this position include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest when they first occupy the position, an on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
