Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to healthcare by offering urgent care, primary care, preventative services, wellness education, violence support services, mental health, and counseling services to the Sacramento State campus community.

Essential Duties

Direct Counseling/Clinical Services
Provide direct clinical services including but not limited to: short-term individual, group and couples’ psychotherapy for students; mental health screenings, crisis intervention and crisis debriefing; clinical assessment, and case management. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in close collaboration with psychiatrists and other medical providers, health and wellness professionals, educational and disability counselors, and other on and off-campus mental health professionals.

Outreach and Program Development Services
Develop and implement programs including but not limited to: presentations, workshops, prevention projects, residence hall training, seminars, mental health screening days and other outreach services as requested.

Supervision and Training
Provide clinical supervision and training responsibilities including but not limited to: providing clinical supervision to practicum trainees, interns, and post-doctoral interns; co-facilitate outreach activities, workshops, and groups with supervisees; and, provide training and educational seminars for supervisees.

Consultation
Provide consultation including but not limited to: providing consultative expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the educational, developmental and psychological well being of students; provide consultation services and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, and student leaders on mental health and developmental issues related to traditionally underserved students.

Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited training program and internship.
• MS, MA or MSW in Counseling or Social Work from an accredited program.
• Licensed as a Psychologist, LMFT, or LCSW in the State of California (Or licensed within six months of hire).
• Demonstrated ability to conduct brief individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.
• Experience working a diverse student population with a broad spectrum of psychological issues.
• Experience or knowledge working with high-risk clients.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct intake clinical interviews, psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment plan formulation.
• Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in counseling a variety of racial/ethnic groups and diversities including multi-racial identity; gender; sexual preference; gender, disabilities; religion, socio-economic backgrounds, and age.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement outreach programs, provide consultation and outreach.
• Demonstrated knowledge of clinical supervision
• Knowledge of applicable laws and ethics pertaining to mental health in CA
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of mental health and primary care providers within an integrated Student Health Center.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in university counseling center
• Experience effectively counseling students from one or more of the underserved populations at CSU Sacramento.
• Experience with crisis intervention
• Experience providing clinical supervision and training
• Experience with time limited/brief therapy model
• Bilingual competence
• Experience with electronic medical records.
