Job Summary

Information Resources & Technology (IRT) provides essential information technology services for campus operations and innovative technology solutions to facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals.

The Senior Director of Planning and Strategic Projects reports to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer and serves as part of the senior leadership team in Information Resources & Technology. The incumbent works with the Vice President and CIO in leading Sacramento State in the effective delivery of strategic university projects as well as internal IRT projects.
The Senior Director of Planning and Strategic Projects provides leadership and direct supervision to project managers that have a very high level of interaction with our administrators, faculty, and staff.
The Senior Director Planning and Strategic Projects provides leadership in project governance to ensure a transparent process that supports the university’s strategic initiatives. This position develops and implements PMO processes, directs PMO project managers and business analysts, and works with other department leaders on priorities and resource management.
All team members work in alignment with strategic goals of Sac State and IRT. This position will report to the CIO will be a contributor to IRT strategic planning, achievement of strategic objectives, and other continuous improvement activities.

FLSA MPP - This position is defined in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and is exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA. This position is covered by health benefits.
Classification Salary Range

3,726 – 12,767 monthly

Hiring Range $9,166.00 to $10,833.00 Monthly; Starting salary for very well qualified candidates will typically be near the mid-point of the hiring range

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Management Information Systems, Business, Instructional Technology, Higher Education, Project Management, or any related field.
2. Demonstrated experience with supervision, delegation, and performance management.
3. Demonstrated experience serving in an IT leadership role such as director and successfully leading IT projects and delivering IT services.
4. Demonstrated experience with leading change/effective change management.
5. Demonstrated experience with evaluation and continuous improvement of services and processes.
6. Demonstrated experience successfully managing and documenting complex projects, prioritizing based on strategic goals, and meeting deadlines.
7. Demonstrated experience with agile project management concepts.

9. Demonstrated ability to own, manage, and solve complex problems creatively.
10. Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent service.
11. Demonstrated understanding of higher education organizational structures and mission.

Preferred Qualifications

14. Three or more years as a full-time professional, project manager.
15. Demonstrated experience leading a Project Management Office.
16. Demonstrated experience leading Project and Portfolio governance.
17. Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and maintenance contracts.
18. Demonstrated experience leading and developing other leaders and staff in a collective bargaining environment.
19. Demonstrated experience leading implementation and delivery of academic and administrative projects
20. Demonstrated experience leading projects to improve student outcomes.
21. Demonstrated experience working in the public sector; university experience preferred.
