Job Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Admissions and Outreach the incumbent will assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented Marketing and Communications policies from a strategic and operational perspective. The position requires the incumbent to regularly participate in planning and development activities to achieve programmatic and administrative goals.
Responsibilities include development and implementation of a targeted Marketing and Communications plan for the Office of Admissions and Outreach, overseeing the development of messages and marketing consistent with the University’s goals and public relations guidelines, overseeing staff who are assigned to develop and enhance the Admissions and Outreach (A&O) digital presence including relevant social media platforms, and strategic communication initiatives.
The incumbent will also perform competitive market analyses to identify and monitor the changing landscape of undergraduate outreach, marketing, and recruitment. The incumbent will research, develop, enhance, and evaluate special programs directly related to A&O and collaborate with a wide variety of offices and academic departments campus-wide.
The incumbent will also oversee staff responsible for Marketing and Communications. The incumbent must exercise sound, independent judgement and initiative, effective interviewing techniques, exhibit a cooperative and congenial attitude, and possess effective communication skills for multiple stakeholders and audiences.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Department Information

The Office of Admissions & Outreach facilitates access to higher education for potential students through outreach education, individual admission advising, and accurate, efficient document processing. These activities support the University in achieving optimal enrollment representation including ethnicity, gender, age and regional diversity.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Required Qualifications

Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related field.

Experience:
2. Experience with marketing strategies for engaging multiple audiences, including digital and emerging technologies, (i.e. social media).
3. Experience in project management and demonstrated use of problem-solving and organizational skills to effectively monitor and manage multiple/large-scale projects with overlapping deadlines and tasks.
4. Experience managing and collaborating with freelance professionals and vendors, including printers, photographers, designers, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop and implement communication and marketing projects/campaigns for a large, complex organization.
6. Ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised Marketing and Communications strategies and or policies.
7. Knowledge of digital marketing and communications best practices.
8. Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to develop strategic Marketing and Communications solutions.
9. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
10. Demonstrated use of writing and editing skills to use language effectively and creatively and apply style guidelines.
11. Ability to recognize and use correct English grammar, spell and punctuate correctly, and understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.
12. Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format, and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus from multiple stakeholders and constituent groups.
13. Knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management.
14. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and publication design, production, and skills to use Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, etc.
15. Familiarity with the latest trends, technologies and methodologies in graphic design, web design, production, data visualization etc.

Preferred Qualifications

16. Experience with PeopleSoft Student Administration, COGNOS Data Warehouse, website/mobile application design and maintenance, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
17. Experience in resource allocation, including budget management and goal setting.
18. Familiarity with CSU policies and procedures regarding marketing/public relations.
19. Familiarity with higher education marketing campaigns and strategic initiatives (i.e. Admissions & Outreach, Career Center, Academic Advising, etc.) with special emphasis on under-served populations.
20. Experience with advertising practices and buys.
21. Experience leveraging digital marketing tools and techniques to meet recruitment objectives.
22. Previous supervisory experience.
20. Familiarity with CSU policies and procedures regarding marketing/public relations.
21. Familiarity with higher education marketing campaigns and strategic initiatives (i.e. Admissions & Outreach, Career Center, Academic Advising, etc.) with special emphasis on under-served populations.
22. Experience with advertising practices and buys.
23. Experience leveraging digital marketing tools and techniques to meet recruitment objectives.
