Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Extension Programs, the Extended Education Specialist II (EESII) in the Extension Programs unit is responsible for securing training contracts and developing new professional development courses and programs. The EES II will work with state government representatives and private industry employers to build relationships, perform training needs assessments and develop complex, customized, high-quality training solutions. The EES II will design and implement marketing, promotion and recruitment plans to increase contract business opportunities and enrollments in public programs. The EES II will manage multiple and varied programs and projects and supervise staff overseeing program delivery. CCE is a self support organization and the EES II is responsible for developing, promoting and delivering successful cost-recovery training services such as courses, workshops, certificate programs and customized contract training.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Department Information

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the procedures and practices in educational program and curriculum planning in education, and the processes required to plan and construct academic programs and course outlines.

Ability to determine needs for new or revised programs; plan hours and develop course outlines with instructors; locate instructors and to assist them in understanding and completing contract arrangements; develop budgets and analyze costs; develop and implement promotional strategies; represent the CSU system to the community and develop working relationships; and manage logistics of providing classes and to analyze cost information and statistics.

Equivalent to three years of experience in planning classes and curriculum for higher or extended education programs and including developing resources, budgets, marketing plans and liaison with the community.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with courses in adult education and curriculum planning.

Required Qualifications

1. Experience in providing lead work direction to office staff and managing contract or instructional employees.

2. Strong project management experience; including experience managing multiple complex projects either independently or collaboratively with other staff and stakeholders.
3. Experience building and managing strong collaborative relationships.

4. Knowledge of developing educational or training programs, including program formats, course outlines, and implementation schedule.
5. Knowledge in recruiting, selecting, and securing instructors for programs.
6. Knowledge of evaluating effectiveness of programs.
7. Abilities in building new customer relationships through different marketing activities.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively influence stakeholders.
9. Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs and databases for customer relationship management or program planning and delivery.
10. Ability to make effective decisions when facing new situations with unclear guidelines.
11. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.

12. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
13. Ability to travel state-wide to support programs, including overnight stays, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

14. Experience in participating in cross-functional teams or committees to achieve organization-wide priorities.
15. Experience in collaborating with coworkers to drive the team’s vision, goals, and implementation plan to achieve unit’s success.
16. Knowledge of utilizing resources of the campus and the surrounding community to achieve unit’s objectives.
