Essential Duties

- Teach career counseling and core counseling courses (in the candidate’s area of expertise) in a Counseling program seeking CACREP accreditation that leads to a Master of Science in Counseling, Career Counseling Specialization Degree;
- Infuse multicultural and social justice content into all courses;
- Provide field supervision for trainees
- Provide academic advising to both current and prospective Career Counseling program students and hold weekly office hours
- Assist with student recruitment efforts, admissions process, and decision-making
- Participate in the continued development, implementation, evaluation, and accreditation of the Career Counseling program and work collaboratively with the Master’s in Counseling programs toward program and accreditation efforts
- Attend faculty meetings, serve on Branch, College, and University committees, and engage in scholarly activity and involvement in community service
- Actively engage in research that has local, regional and national impact
- Work collegially and actively with faculty and staff in the Graduate and Professional Studies Programs
- Engage in course development; teaching; program/curriculum evaluation; assessment and accreditation, including evaluation and assessment of students in terms of Counseling Competencies, BBS educational requirements, and WASC requirements
- Assist counseling faculty and staff in meeting California licensure standards for the Board of Behavioral Sciences
- Engage actively with other faculty to create and implement program evaluation processes and collaborate on faculty teams to investigate issues such as training competent practitioners, effective educational and admissions practices, cultural competency in training and service provision, clinical training, and therapy process and outcome

NOTE: Courses may meet in the late afternoon or evening.

Required Qualifications

-An earned doctorate in Counselor Education, Career Counseling, College Counseling, or closely related field, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. If ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctorate by August, 2018.
-Demonstrated focus in the area of career and/or college counseling as evidenced in teaching, research, or other professional experiences.
-Experience working in career or college counseling with diverse populations
-Thorough knowledge of the theoretical, professional, and practical dimensions of NCDA standards and competencies
-Involvement in career counseling and professional counseling associations (e.g., ACA, NCDA).
-Commitment to working successfully with a diverse post-secondary student population.
-Knowledge related to trends and issues in career counseling.
-Specialized knowledge related to career counseling theories and career and vocational assessments
-Knowledge of job search and placement strategies

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience working with graduate students in instruction, supervision, mentoring, and research-related activities.
-Specialized knowledge and experience related to individual and group counseling; multicultural counseling; collaborative consultation; assessment; counseling theory; organization and administration of career counseling programs; and grant writing
- Commitment and ability to build relationships and work effectively with community and consumer organizations, including agencies of higher education
- Experience with CACREP, LPCC, or statewide accreditation/licensure processes.
- Eligible for licensure as an LPCC in the State of California.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
