Job Summary

The Graphic Designer within the Marketing and Communications Department works in a collaborative, team-oriented environment to provide graphic solutions for a variety of print and digital marketing materials that promote and support the College of Continuing Education (CCE). The graphic designer works various print and web branding collateral utilizing Sacramento State and CCE’s identity. The graphic designer will design publications, brochures, advertisements, banners and website graphics. Also, the graphic designer will prepare files for print, assist in retrieving photos for clients, update existing print and electronic art and develop new design concepts. It is important to have excellent communication skills in order to understand the needs of a client before making design decisions and have a flexible approach in working with a team. As such, this position plays an important role in maintaining the brand and overall image of the University and CCE.

FLSA Hourly/Int - This position may be eligible for health benefits, and is non-exempt, (eligible for overtime compensation) according to FLSA. Employees who are determined to be eligible for health benefits will be notified by the Benefits Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to the first level within this classification requires foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. This knowledge and skill normally is
obtained through a college degree in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. In addition, strong communication skills and the ability to use and maintain currency
with applicable computer software packages and systems are essential to entering this classification.

Required Qualifications

1. Experience designing, visualizing and communicating effective graphic communication solutions;

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
2. Proficiency in graphic design and layout software such as: Adobe InDesign, PageMaker, Photoshop, Freehand, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, and Google Earth;
3. Knowledge of design principles, printing and publishing techniques for both print and online media;
4. General knowledge of systems, techniques and processes used in web site design, photography, printmaking, content management systems (CMS) and other applicable media;
5. Working knowledge of graphic communication production; print techniques, materials and equipment, and pre-press requirements;
6. Ability to utilize visual/illustrative methods of communication
7. Basic knowledge of copyright laws, especially relating to creative properties;
8. Demonstrated ability to understand communication goals;
9. Strong written/verbal communication skills;
10. Strong project management, organizational and time management skills;
11. Excellent customer service skills;
12. Ability to maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with all stakeholders;
13. Intermediate to advance skills in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel);

Preferred Qualifications

14. Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field.
15. One year of experience in the as a Desktop Publishing/Graphic Specialist II or similar position.
