Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the Public Health Survey Research Program’s (PHSRP) Director, and the lead work direction of PHSRP’s Operations Coordinator, the Analyst will provide data management and statistical support for PHSRP’s research studies. The Analyst will conduct database mangement, data review and correction, preparation of datasets and supporting documentation for deliverables, and will assit in the preparation, programming, testing, and correction of surveys. As part conducting review and correction of data, the Analyst will provide feedback to PHSRP interviewers on data collection protocols. In addition, the Analyst will provide analytic support for PHSRP, the Director, PHSRP clients, and other unit and campus researchers as needed for the design, maintenance, and submission of deliverables of various research databases, including Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Analytic support includes, statistical analysis as well as preparing data for presentation in written and graphic formats. The Analyst will utilize various statistical and survey programs including SAS, SPSS, Excel, and WinCATI. PHSRP hosts historical data for several research studies; the Analyst will maintain these datasets, and under the supervision of the Director, makes these data available to requestors.

FLSA Non-Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is non-exempt, (eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of research techniques and the methods of preparation of research reports; working knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of frequency series, data, simple correlation methods, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers.
Ability to assist in preparation of questionnaires, gathering and analyzing research data, and in compiling data for reports and summaries in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action; ability to speak and write effectively.
and
Experience:
One year of experience in technical research or statistical work.
One year of graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering fields may be substituted for the required experience.
and
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by a course in statistics.
Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications

Experience:
1. Experience using statistical software packages including Statistical Applications Software (SAS) and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

General Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
2. Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
3. Expertise in using office software packages, technology and systems.
4. Strong data analytical skills.
5. Experience developing and maintaining research databases.
6. Experience performing detail-oriented work.
7. Strong ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
8. Ability to provide lead work direction to students and staff.
9. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
10. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive interpersonal situations.

Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

11. Experience working managing and analyzing large datasets, weighted data, and/or population based data.
12. Experience with Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) software and processes.
13. Bilingual in Spanish (ability to speak, read and write).
