The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Sacramento State has 26 full-time and part-time faculty members serving more than 800 undergraduates and 30 graduate students. Our department offers a Master of Arts in Spanish, undergraduate majors in Spanish and French, minors in Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, and also offers language classes in Arabic, Korean, and Punjabi. Our undergraduate programs are designed to provide students the opportunity to learn about languages, literatures and cultures, to broaden cultural understanding, increase language proficiency, and enable them to communicate successfully both in a pluralistic American society and abroad.

Essential Duties

- Teach courses ranging from elementary and intermediate Spanish language and undergraduate and graduate courses on the practice and theory of translation, Mexican literature, language and culture.
- Curricular design of a “translation-path” to the B.A. in Spanish
- Develop coursework with a focus on translation, such as Introduction to Translation, Spanish-English Translation, and Translation Theory and Practice.
- Advise and mentor students, and engage in scholarly and professional activities.
- Provide service to the department, college, campus, and community.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Translation Studies (Spanish-English) with a strong secondary specialization in Mexican Literature and Cultural Studies; or Ph.D. in Spanish (Mexican Literature and Cultural Studies) with a strong secondary specialization in Translation Studies (Spanish-English). ABD applicants considered. If ABD, applicant must complete degree by August 2018.
- Native or near native fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for teaching excellence at all levels of Spanish language instruction.
- Evidence of ability to conduct scholarly or applied research in area of specialization.
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body and the broader community.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience teaching at the college/university level.
- Experience in developing and teaching online and hybrid courses.
- Experience in course coordination and supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, foster, and mentor a diverse student body.
