Hiring Department Summary

The Psychology Department at Sacramento State has 21 full-time faculty as well as part-time faculty members who serve more than 1,000 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate students. The Psychology Department features individual faculty research space, a psychological/behavioral services clinic, computer labs, technical/instructional support, and a small animal vivarium. The psychology department has a strong and ongoing relationship with the university’s Community Engagement Center, Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as multiple local schools and community partners. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in the areas of psychology, as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in psychology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition to the undergraduate major, the Psychology Department offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and a master’s program with specializations in behavior analysis, general psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology.
The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, three independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes. The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively.

Essential Duties

- Teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses.
- Develop a focused and productive program of Behavior Analysis research that involves undergraduate and graduate students.
- Provide advising to Psychology majors.
- Supervise Master’s level theses students.
- Provide service to the department, college, University, and community.
- Work as a cooperative member in the function of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, accreditation and program review.
- Work with diverse populations of students, faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. from an accredited university with a specialty in Applied Behavior Analysis or the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. ABD candidates will be considered for appointment with the requirement that the degree must be completed by January 2019.
- The faculty member is expected to have a strong background in one or more areas within the field.
- Candidates with a background in clinical areas should either be eligible for or have obtained BCBA certification. Candidates who are eligible to sit for the BCBA exam, are expected to obtain their certification on or before January 15th, 2019.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses.
- Potential or proven track record as a researcher.

Preferred Qualifications

- Teaching and research experience in the field of behavior analysis at the college level.
- Ability and desire to teach introductory psychology, research methods, and other undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
- Interest and ability in using a wide variety of teaching methodologies.
- Applied experience in the field of Behavior Analysis (if applicable).
