Job Summary

The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance (AADC) reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The AADC is responsible for overseeing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating all facets of Sacramento State’s Athletic Compliance program to ensure institutional control and conform to industry best practices. This position will be directly involved in the educational, monitoring, and investigating process to create, ensure, and promote an atmosphere of compliance, as well as being involved in any other areas that will further enhance the compliance effort as a whole. The position works closely with the Athletic Director and Faculty Athletic Representative and provides supervision for three full-time compliance staff and two-three Athletic Compliance interns. The AADC manages a budget of $250,000. This position works with University Counsel and representatives of the Big Sky Conference and the NCAA. Additionally, the AADC is a member of the Athletics Advisory Committee.

FLSA MPP - This position is defined in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and is exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA. This position is covered by health benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree in higher education, sports management, business administration, law, or related field

Experience:
2. Five (5) or more years of experience in the area of Compliance for intercollegiate athletics at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level
3. Experience handling NCAA Compliance issues and concerns with internal and external constituents, such as institutional staff members, athletic donors, campus partners and the community.
4. Experience presenting and creating information regarding NCAA Compliance rules, regulations and policies
5. Two (2) or more years of supervisory or management experience
6. Experience with compiling, preparing, writing, and reviewing reports.
7. Experience with conducting thorough investigations with confidentiality and discretion.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
8. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NCAA and Conference (e.g. Big Sky, WAC, Big West, and American) rules, regulations, policies and processes related to compliance (e.g. eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, and institutional control)
9. Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills to handle a high-volume workload and meet multiple deadlines
10. Effective communication skills
11. Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain composure and professionalism
12. Strong computer skills with the ability to use web-based compliance software (e.g. ACS Athletics software)
13. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with ability to provide appropriate solutions
14. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituents
15. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

16. Master’s degree in higher education, sports management, business administration, law, or related field
17. Juris Doctor
18. Experience with or supervision of staff working with NCAA Compliance Assistant (CA)
19. Experience with or supervision of staff working with NCAA Legislative Services Database for the internet (LSDBi)
20. Experience with or supervision of staff working with ACS Athletics Compliance Solution
21. Experience with or supervision of staff working with NCAA Requests/Self-Reports Online (RSRO)
22. Experience serving on a variety of university campus committees or groups
23. Involvement in professional societies and organizations
