The Health Science Program at Sacramento State currently serves over 500 undergraduate majors and expressed interest students. The Health Science Program offers three undergraduate professional areas of study: Healthcare Administration, Community Health Education, and Occupational Health & Safety. Our Bachelors of Science undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in health science, while providing strong preparation in one of the three professional areas of study. The Health Science Program is developing a Master of Public Health program designed to serve our regional partners, educating future leaders in public health.

The Health Science Program is housed in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, in the University’s College of Health and Human Services, and is a participating program in College’s new Center for Health Professions, Policy & Practices.

Essential Duties

The expectation of the position is that the successful candidate will be appointed as a 12-month faculty, developing the Masters in Public Health (MPH) program and serving in the assigned role of MPH Coordinator.

Duties will include:
- Provide leadership in the development and operation of a MPH program.
- Complete and maintain MPH program accreditation.
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in health science/public health.
- Engage in scholarly activities.
- Provide student academic advising.
- Supervise student internships.
- Serve on Department, College and/or University Committees.
- Engage in community service.
- Develop new undergraduate or graduate courses in discipline as needed.
- Willingness to participate in off-campus teaching, distance, and distributed education

Consideration may be given for hire to be at the rank of Full Professor for an exceptional candidate who has significant academic experience and who has already been promoted and received tenure at another institution.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Doctorate in Public Health, Health Science or closely related field.

Knowledge and Abilities:

- Demonstrated experience in the MPH accreditation process.
- Teach effectively in one or more public health or health science areas such as epidemiology, disease prevention, community health, public health administration and policy, community health planning and evaluation, injury prevention, or healthcare administration.
- Candidates must exhibit a capacity to utilize instructional technology in teaching.
- Ability to interact and work cooperatively in a manner that promotes collaboration within the program, department, and across campus.

Preferred Qualifications

- A Master in Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH), or closely related field.
- Experience as a MPH Program coordinator.
- Academic background necessary to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Public Health, Health Science or Healthcare Administration.
- Successful university teaching experience.
- Work experience with diverse populations in public health or healthcare industry sectors (hospitals, insurance, group practice management, public health administration, non-governmental organization, local, state, or federal agency, etc.).
- Ability to work cooperatively in diverse academic program.
- Demonstrated experience teaching both online and classroom settings.
- Demonstrated college classroom and online curriculum development experience
