Job Summary

The Data Warehouse Business Intelligence Analyst / Reporting Analyst facilitates data administration and support, with emphasis on solving analytical business and reporting problems through the application of business intelligence technology and processes. This position reports to the Director of University Reporting and Data Services in the Division of Information Resources and Technology. The Data Business Intelligence Analyst/ Reporting Analyst, in many cases, will act as a member of a team of division and campus colleagues and will sometimes serve as a lead on business intelligence and reporting projects. The incumbent’s duties will include working with key business stakeholders to define and enable data reporting and dashboard initiatives and innovative business intelligence solutions to support key University objectives. The Analyst will consult with business users to optimize information and analytic usage to ensure reports and dashboards are focused on providing users with quick and actionable business intelligence. Duties may include documentation development, support and other in-depth customer relations activity to support the analytic reporting environment. Duties may also include working as a team member on issues related to use of database management packages and analytic reporting tools (e.g. Cognos) for reporting and analysis, including ensuring data integrity and serving as a contributor to the definition, design and implementation of the specified data marts making up the University Data Warehouse.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Hiring Range $5,000 – $7,417 monthly; Starting salary for very well qualified candidates will typically be near the mid-point of the hiring range

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Management Information Systems (MIS), or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.

Required Qualifications

Experience:
1. Three years minimum experience in the BI Analyst/Developer role.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
2. Demonstrated ability to function at the Analyst/Programmer Career skill level, including ability to independently consult with users to identify and document report purpose, workflow and process issues, report output needs, and to determine report requirements and specifications, thereby developing practicable and thorough solutions using effective communication and listening skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to determine and evaluate alternative solutions and approaches.
4. Demonstrated skill to develop user-friendly solutions such as reports and dashboards data visualizations that meet business intelligence requirements.
5. Demonstrated ability to work with the users to monitor, analyze, model, create, and verify data to ensure integrity of reports and dashboards.
6. Demonstrated ability to serve as a contributor to develop assigned data marts to support specific applications.
7. Demonstrated ability to use one or more industry standard data warehouse applications and apply Kimball Data Warehouse methodology or similar.
8. Demonstrated knowledge and skill providing training and communication materials to users that maximize their ability to utilize system capabilities, features, and other resources as related to database management, reporting packages/systems, and business intelligence analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Experience:
9. Advanced Master’s degree, preferably in computer science or MIS.
10. 5 years or greater experience in the BI Analyst/Developer role
11. Experience with and an understanding of business intelliegence (BI) trends
12. Experience with the following:
a) OLAP reporting tools and data cube technology
b) SQL
c) Oracle data development and reporting tools
d) Cognos Business intelligence tools or similar
e) Informatica PowerCenter and MetaData Manager
f) Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server development tools
g) ServiceNow or similar application to track personnal work assignments and request services
h) Data structures of PeopleSoft applications including staging tables
i) Developing data definitions as part of an enterprise data governance program
j) Creating reports for PeopleSoft applications
k) Agile software development methodology
l) Relational and Multi-dimensional database concepts
m) Business process analysis and workflow improvement
n) Data reporting and analysis from student information systems, financial systems, HR systems, and other data warehouse related information
13. Applicable experience within higher edcation

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
14. Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to turn data into insight
15. Demonstrated knowledge of reporting development in using business or predictive analytics
16. Demonstrated ability to design and develop interactive summary and drill-down reporting dashboards
17. Demonstrated ability to work in a team and project environment on data reporting issues
18. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple work load and responsbilities, ensuring deadlines are met
