Job Summary

Under the lead work direction of the ASC II and general supervision of the Associate Director of Clinical Operations the Patient Services Representative, the Patient/Client Services Representative coordinates and facilitates a variety of functions in support of the Student Health and Counseling Services mission, values and goals. Incumbent functions with a moderate degree of independence and exercises considerable discretion, judgment and confidentiality as required in a clinical office environment.

Provides first point-of-contact for patients, customers, and visitors. Gathers pertinent patient data to facilitate service to the patient and receipt of payments for service provided. Provides efficient and accurate customer service to patients with their registration and other needs.

FLSA Non-Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is non-exempt, (eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; and typing and keyboard skills.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.

Required Qualifications

1. Experience providing receptionist and/or clerical duties in an office environment

1. Exceptional customer service skills
2. Effective interpersonal skills
3. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion when responding to routine and non-routine inquiries and assessing urgency of situations
4. Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly and accurately
5. Ability to understand and explain complex health-care regulations, policies and procedures
6. Fluency in using standard office software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
7. Effective organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize work assignments
8. Ability to perform standard clerical procedures and practices
9. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

11. Two years’ experience providing direct customer service
12. Experience working in a medical office and/or counseling center
13. Experience working with an Electronic Medical Record
