Hiring Department Summary

The Psychology Department at Sacramento State has 21 full-time faculty as well as part-time faculty members who serve more than 1,000 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate students. The Psychology Department features individual faculty research space, a psychological/behavioral services clinic, computer labs, technical/instructional support, and a small animal vivarium. The psychology department has a strong and ongoing relationship with the university’s Community Engagement Center, Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as multiple local schools and community partners. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in the areas of psychology, as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in psychology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelors of Arts degree. In addition to the undergraduate major, the Psychology Department offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and a master’s program with specialization in behavior analysis, general psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology.

The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, three independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes. The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively.

Essential Duties

- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in clinical
psychology (e.g., Abnormal Psychology, Personality Theories, Psychological Testing), undergraduate courses in research methods and statistics, and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
- Advise and supervise undergraduate and graduate students including Master’s level thesis students.
- Maintain an active research program with productivity relevant to clinical psychology and is appropriate for student involvement and complements existing department scholarship.
- Contribute service to department, college, university, community, and profession.
- Work effectively with culturally diverse, marginalized, and/or underrepresented populations.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. from an accredited university with a specialty in clinical
psychology. ABD candidates may be considered for appointment with the requirement that the degree must be completed by January 2019.
- Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral clinical internship by August 15, 2018.
- Psychologist license or license eligibility in the State of California. If license eligible, must become licensed as a psychologist in the State of California by December 2023.
- Background and training in clinical psychology (evidence by
coursework and/or experience).
- Training appropriate to university level teaching, research, and service activities.
- Demonstrated teaching ability with college-level courses.
- Proven track-record as a researcher.

Preferred Qualifications

- Postdoctoral or other advanced training in research and clinical specialty.
