Job Summary

The Director of the Career Center reports to the Associate Vice President, Student Affairs/Dean of Students, and is responsible for coordinating campus-wide Career Ready Initiatives. The Director supervises the daily and ongoing operation of the Career Center. The Director collaborates with program coordinators and other colleagues to ensure seamless student service delivery, including overseeing and managing the experiential learning programs for each of the Colleges and implementing strategic planning and assessments for career services and employer relations. The Director marshalls campus stakeholders, creates buy-in and consensus toward a unified university plan for career development and placement.

FLSA MPP - This position is defined in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and is exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA. This position is covered by health benefits.

Through career development, the Career Center engage, educate and empower our students to thrive and successfully contribute to today’s economic workforce. Our various services help us reach our goals, including choosing or changing a major or career path, finding and applying for internships, learning job search strategies which include interview skills, and revising resumes and cover letters.  We are able to assist our students in reaching not only their educational goals but their life-long career goals as well.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications

1. Bachelors in Career Counseling, Educational Leadership, College Student Personnel, Educational Counseling, or a related field;
2. Five years professional experience in college or university student services;
3. Two years professional experience in career counseling or related service;
4. Experience working with employers, faculty, staff, and students from diverse groups;
5. Experience supervising professional staff;
6. Experience with and responsibility for program development and assessment;
7. Experience motivating and managing work teams to design, implement, and evaluate programs;

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
8. Demonstrated knowledge of database management, budget, and strategic planning;
9. Extensive knowledge of career development theory;
10. Knowledge of the job search process and labor force trends; a clear understanding of the role of internships and career education initiatives;
11. Excellent writing and speaking skills;
12. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative relationship with various stakeholders;

Preferred Qualifications

13. Masters in Career Counseling, Educational Leadership, College Student Personnel, Educational Counseling, or a related field;
14. Experience working with college or university faculty and an understanding of faculty governance;
15. Experience with various technology platforms designed to connect students and alumni with employers, such as Simplicity/Hornet Career Connection, LinkedIn, and other web-based products and services;
16. Knowledge of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accreditation standards;

Conflict of Interest

The duties of this position include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest when they first occupy the position, an on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
