Job Summary

Under supervision of the Marketing Communications Director, the Marketing Specialist will work closely with program staff including program managers, ensuring their marketing and engagement needs are met. The incumbent will also be responsible for leading and executing special projects for the Marketing Communications department from inception to implementation. The incumbent will work independently on a broad range of projects and will collaborate across the organization to ensure copy is written, edited, proofed and distributed for promotional projects, campaigns, publications, media releases, and advertisements. The incumbent will also work closely with media representatives, web developers, graphic designers, and senior level staff.

The incumbent must have all the skills required of a Public Affairs/Specialist I. In addition, the incumbent must have thorough knowledge of the program and applicable communications techniques, work autonomously, and exercise sound judgment and discretion in the completion of assignments and projects.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.

Required Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience in coordination of multiple projects and/or assignments and establishing priorities.
2. Proven track record of working with a variety of stakeholders, which may include instructors, administrators, vendors, business and community leaders, university staff, and students.
3. Experience with the preparation and delivery of formal and informal presentations.
4. Digitally literate (web, social media, word processing, blogging, e-learning platforms) and have demonstrated experience in community and/or business engagement and in the development of communication strategies including advertising and public relations plans, preferably within a university setting.
5. Experience with researching, planning and executing marketing campaigns, including market research techniques to identify target market opportunities.
6. Experience in design, print, advertising and marketing principles as well as media buying.
7. Experience in communications, public relations or marketing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
8. Advanced communication skills (oral, written, interpersonal).
9. Excellent organizational skills.
10. Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment and discretion in the completion of multiple assignments and projects.
11. Ability to provide lead work direction
12. Understanding of Search Engine Optimization and how content and page linking work together to increase keyword relevance and drive placement in search engines.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Preferred Qualifications

13. Experience with diverse public contact in higher education and/or experience with continuing education.
14. Experience with marketing to international students and stakeholders
15. Bachelor’s Degree, coursework, and/or certification in a related field.
16. Event planning experience.
17. Experience with writing, shooting, editing, and producing videos, news stories, PSAs and podcasts.
19. Ability to use Common Management System; Microsoft Office 2007; Customer Relations Management (CRM); Internet Tools and social media platforms such at html, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, and Twitter.

20. Possess valid driver’s license and maintenance of good driving record with the ability to travel to on and offsite locations using a vehicle, per the essential functions of the position.
