Job Summary

Information Resources & Technology (IRT) provides essential information technology services for campus operations and innovative technology solutions to facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals.

The Associate Chief Information Officer (ACIO) reports to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer and serves as the second most senior leader in Information Resources & Technology. The Associate CIO typically serves as Administrator in Charge of IRT when the CIO is out of the office.
The Associate CIO works with the Vice President and CIO in leading Sacramento State in the effective delivery and improvement of campus-wide information technology services for faculty, staff, and students.
The Associate CIO leads teams that have a very high level of interaction with our faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent provides leadership and direct supervision of the following IT functions: Service Desk, Desktop Services, Instructional Technology, Learning Space Services (Computer Labs and Classrooms), and Web/Mobile Services. The Associate CIO helps to ensure strategic alignment, consistency, and effectiveness across all functions of the division.
The Associate CIO represents IRT in multiple strategic campus projects and initiatives. The Associate CIO provides leadership in particular to university-wide initiatives in the areas of Student Success, reducing time to degree, and teaching and learning with technology.
The Associate CIO plays a leadership role in the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) and participates in the ATI Advisory Board and helps lead continuous improvement of the ATI program which includes instructional materials, web accessibility, and procurement.
The Associate CIO serves as an agent of IRT and creates partnerships between IRT and other divisions on campus as well as the Faculty Senate and other shared governance organizations; the Associate CIO serves on multiple standing and project committees.
All team members work in alignment with strategic goals of Sac State and IRT. The Associate CIO will be a key contributor to IRT strategic planning, achievement of strategic objectives, and other continuous improvement activities.

FLSA Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt, (not eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Classification Salary Range

4,948 – 16,822 monthly
Starting salary for very well qualified candidates will typically be near the mid-point of the recruitment range

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications


1. Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology, Higher Education, or any related field.
2. Demonstrated experience with supervision, delegation, and performance management.
3. Demonstrated experience successfully managing complex projects, prioritizing based on strategic goals, and meeting deadlines. Familiarity with agile project management concepts desired.
4. Demonstrated experience serving in an IT leadership role such as director and successfully leading projects and delivering services in most of the following areas: service desk, desktop support, academic technology, classroom technology, computer lab, and web/mobile services.
5. Demonstrated experience with leading change/effective change management.
6. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and implementation of strategic plans.
7. Demonstrated experience with evaluation and continuous improvement of services and processes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

8. Excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
9. Demonstrated ability to own, manage, and solve complex problems creatively.
10. Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent service to faculty, staff, and students.
11. Demonstrated understanding of higher education organizational structures and mission; experience with shared governance and faculty engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

12. Earned doctorate or terminal degree in a relevant field or discipline.
13. Demonstrated experience leading efforts to make technology accessible to constituents who are differently abled.
14. At least ten years of progressively complex experience leading enterprise or University-level IT services.
15. Demonstrated experience using data for decision making.
16. Demonstrated experience leading delivery of high availability services such as a learning management system.
17. Demonstrated experience with software as a service and/or cloud hosting.
18. Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and maintenance contracts.
19. Demonstrated experience leading and developing other leaders and staff in a collective bargaining environment.
20. Demonstrated experience leading implementation and delivery of academic technology services such as a learning management system.
21. Demonstrated experience leading implementation and delivery of technology to improve student outcomes.
22. Demonstrated experience with IT service management and ticketing system.
23. Demonstrated experience with instructional design and learning theories.
24. Demonstrated experience developing and/or delivering courses or training – some hybrid and/or online experience preferred.
25. Demonstrated experience with human-centered design.
