The Sociology Department at Sacramento State has 14 full-time faculty and several part-time faculty members who serve more than 800 undergraduate majors and more than 60 graduate students. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in sociology as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in sociology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Master of Arts degree.

Essential Duties

-Primarily teaching courses in undergraduate and graduate sociological social psychology.
-Teaching and developing other undergraduate/graduate courses in areas of specialization.
-Major advising.
-Engage in scholarly activities.
-Supervise undergraduate and Master’s student research.
-Address the needs of diverse student populations through development of highly effective course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
-Provide service to the campus and the community.

Required Qualifications


PhD in Sociology or a closely-related field. ABD candidates will be considered. Ph.D. must be completed by January 2019.

Special Knowledge and Abilities:

-Ability to teach sociological social psychology classes at undergraduate and graduate levels. Additional substantive areas: all areas considered.
-Evidence of strong commitment to college teaching and potential for scholarly achievement.
-A commitment and ability to work with a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

-Prior teaching experience at the college or university level, including with students coming from non-traditional or diverse backgrounds.
