Job Summary

The ADA Coordinator provides guidance and consultation to the University community to ensure compliance with the ADA, Sections 503 & 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, FEHA, and other federal and state laws regarding equal access for people with disabilities. The Coordinator will work in partnership with various University departments/offices regarding compliance including, but not limited to, the President, VPs, and AVPs, Deans and Directors, SSWD, Student Health & Counseling Services, Facilities Services, UTAPS, Housing & Residential Life, Athletics, University Counsel, and outside stakeholders. The Coordinator will help to coordinate resources available on campus.

FLSA MPP - This position is defined in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and is exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA. This position is covered by health benefits.

Department Information

The Office of University Counsel at California State University, Sacramento provides, manages, and coordinates all legal services for Sacramento State, as an institution, to minimize legal risks and costs, and always to do so efficiently, reliably and professionally. It serves as a campus-based counsel and functions as a member of the Office of General Counsel for The California State University, Chancellor’s Office. Its primary responsibility is handling legal issues which arise at Sacramento State, but it also handles personnel and other administrative hearings and manages all CSUS’ litigation.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university and/or college.
2. At least three years’ experience in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 compliance (or state law compliance in same area) accessibility of programs, services and activities and physical accessibility for design and construction/barrier removal to include having served in the capacity of an outside expert providing advice or consultation on such issues or internally having lead and/or supervisory experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the ADA, ADA regulations and guidelines, and other laws addressing the rights of people with disabilities in an educational environment as well as visiting public.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for increasing inclusiveness and access for individuals with disabilities, including implementation and ongoing review/amendment of ADA self-evaluations and transition plans.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of various alternative formats and alternative technologies that enable people with disabilities to communicate, participate, and perform tasks as well as access to electronic and information technologies and website accessibility, consistent with best practices.
6. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of people, including people with disabilities.
7. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and establish effective working relationships with various constituents such as management, faculty, and staff at all levels of the University as well as vendors, and visitors.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
9. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
10. Demonstrated ability to effect institutional change.
11. Demonstrated ability to bring consensus to priorities and timelines with constituent/stakeholders groups.
12. Demonstrated organizational skills which includes prioritization of competing priorities, tracking and meeting deadlines.
13. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
14. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of multicultural and cultural competencies.
15. Demonstrated competencies in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

16. Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, J.D.).
17. Demonstrated recent experience collaborating with architects, civil engineers and/or project managers regarding the application of the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
18. Extensive knowledge of other Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity and Civil Rights laws and regulations.

The duties of this position include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest when they first occupy the position, an on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
